After trailing by 103 runs in the first innings against Pakistan, English openers Alastair Cook and Alex Hales took the hosts to a commanding position after sharing an unbeaten partnership of 120 runs by the end of the third day. With both the openers looking well set, Pakistan needed something special to claw their way back in the match which was fast tilting towards the hosts and one can say that the special moment came as a surprise. Yasir Shah’s moment of brilliance on the field ended the brilliant opening partnership.
Resuming on their overnight score of 120, England could add just six runs when they lost the precious wicket of their skipper. Pakistani fast bowler Sohail Khan, who took a fifer in the previous innings, bowled one outside the off. Cook, batting on 66, drove it but did not get quite to the pitch and failed to keep the shot on the ground. Yasir Shah, who is more known for his leg-spins, dived full length to his wrong side and took a magnificent catch to end Cook’s brilliant innings.
