Vijay Shankar to Stay With India A Side as Replacement of Priyank Panchal

All-rounder Vijay Shankar will continue to stay on with the India A side for the two unofficial Test matches against South Africa A. It has been learnt that Priyank Panchal has not travelled to South Africa due to viral fever and BCCI has asked Shankar to stay on with the team.

It’s a big disappointment for Panchal, as the Gujarat opener earned an A side recall riding on his performance in the Ranji Trophy. He emerged out as the highest run-scorer in the tournament, as he scored 1310 runs.

Vijay Shankar is the third replacement who has been named to the team. Earlier, Abhinav Mukund – who was called in the Indian team – was replaced by R Samarth. Later, Krishnappa Gowtham was called into the side in place of Jayant Yadav and now Shankar is the third replacement named for the two unofficial Test matches.

At present, Indian team is playing a tri-series in the country and the Manish Pandey led side will face South Africa A in the finals of the tournament on August 8. Both the sides won three games each in the group stage.
