Virat Kohli set yet another batting record in the Indian Premier League en-route to his match-winning knock of 75 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Chasing Kolkata’s target of 183, the in-form duo of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli once again batted brilliantly and shared an unbeaten partnership of 105 to take Bangalore home. The win helped Bangalore to leap-frog to the fifth place in the league table.
The RCB skipper slammed his 24th IPL fifty and after crossing the individual total of 57 in the match the right-handed batter created another new record.
Virat Kohli, who is currently leading the race for the Orange Cap in the tournament, became the highest run-getter in a single season of the tournament. He has so far scored 752 runs in the 12 matches and still has a minimum of 2 games left to play. This record was previously held by Chris Gayle and Michael Hussey who had scored 733 runs in one edition.
Gayle achieved the feat in IPL 4 for Royal Challengers Bangalore while Hussey achieved this feat in IPL 5 for Chennai Super Kings. The right-hander also became the first Indian to score 700+ runs in one season edition. Robin Uthappa’s 660 for KKR in the 2014 edition was the previous highest by an Indian.
