Its just been 16 days since Virat Kohli has been handed the captaincy across all formats, the right-hander has lodged another record to his name. During India’s third One Dayer against England in Kolkata on Sunday, Virat completed 1000 runs as a captain and that too in mere 17 innings.
The achievement in itself is a record, as he became the fastest skipper to do so, surpassing the previous best record held by South African masterclass Ab de Villiers, who completed a thousand runs in 18 innings.
After the flamboyant batsman reached his 20th run during India’s innings, he ranked himself up the order, leaving behind the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Kane Williamson and Alastair Cook. His innings was, however finished, after a wide delivery carrying an extra bounce, took a top edge of his bat and traveled to Buttler on 55 off Liam Plunkett.
This record is just not it, during the first ODI against England in Pune, Virat surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 16 centuries in successful run-chases, as he touched the number 17th with his match winning knock 122 runs.
