India skipper Virat Kohli has dropped to the fourth spot in the latest International Cricket Council’s Test batting rankings after his New Zealand counterpart Kane Williamson rose to second spot following his team’s drawn first Test against South Africa.
The right-handed batsman, who scored 130 in the first innings of the match at Dunedin, has overtaken Joe Root and Kohli for the second spot. The Kiwi batsman is now leading Root and Kohli by 21 and 22 rating points respectively. Australia skipper Steve Smith is still leading the charts with 936 points. Smith, who reached a career-high 939 rating points after scoring a century in the Pune Test against India, has lost three points after scoring 8 and 28 in the Bengaluru Test.
Kohli, who walked into the series at the second spot, had earlier dropped to third spot after managing 0 and 13 in the Pune Test. He failed to find his form in the second Test too where he could score only 12 and 15 in both the innings.
Australian opener David Warner completes the top-five with 794 points while Cheteshwar Pujara is the second-highest ranked Indian batsman in the list at sixth position with 793 points.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has reclaimed the top spot in all-rounders’ ranking after Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan dropped 38 points for his poor performance in his team’s 259-run defeat to Sri Lanka in Galle.
