The Bengal batsman has made the most of the chances in this series against NZ as he looked solid despite being demoted to No.8 due to great form of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Saha performed strongly in the second Test as he made key contributions with the bat in both the innings. The 31-year old has made crucial contributions as he scored fifty in both the innings and remained unbeaten in the match as he scored 54* and 58* respectively.
After the win which saw India reclaim the No.1 position in Tests after 2010, Virat Kohli said: “Saha is brilliant. He is the best keeper in the country right now. He is doing a great job in Test cricket. He is wonderful behind the stumps, with the bat as well, something we wanted him to come good”
Saha has managed to replace MS Dhoni as a batsman and a wicketkeeper in the recent days as Dhoni is hardly missed after his retirement in the Test format. Saha excelled in his role as a wicket-keeper batsman as he is playing very well along with the tail-enders which is making Team India’s batting look much stronger.
The 31-year old has been in great form off late as he has managed his maiden test ton against West Indies prior to this series and has looked solid so far in the ongoing test series against New Zealand.
“That hundred in West Indies really helped his confidence. You can now see he wants to fight it out, he understands how to play with the tail, and he backs himself to go over the top and play his shots when under pressure. That’s key for him. He’s been a revelation for the side,” said Virat Kohli referring to the ton he scored against West Indies.
India and Virat Kohli hopes that Saha continues his current form as the team will have great batting depth with Jadeja coming at No.9 which could prove vital as India are going to play a long home series over the next few months.
