Virat Kohli Heaps Praise On Jayant Yadav, Calls Him A Great Package

All-rounder Jayant Yadav has been a surprise package for team India. He made a debut for the Indian team in ODI series against New Zealand and bowled beautifully in last game. Yadav, who was called as a replacement for Ishant Sharma during New Zealand Test series was retained in the squad for England Tests as the fourth spinner and now has replaced his senior statemate Amit Mishra in the team. In fact, he has pushed Amit Mishra below him in the pecking order of spinners for the captain to choose from as the all-rounder has scored runs and also has wickets in his short international career.

He has impressed everyone in just those two Test matches and has shown that he is a bankable horse in the long run.

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli, ahead of the start of Wankhede Test, was in all praise for the Haryana skipper as he said,  “Very impressed, just two games old. I have never played with a bowler, you can call him an all-rounder now, I haven’ had to tell him anything honestly. He sets his own field, he knows where he has to bowl. Sometimes I ask mid-on to be back but is able to keep it up as he wants the batsman to go after him. He is pretty confident of his skills which are very evident and it can only come with professionalism. He practises his skills very well, he is fit. You know he understands the game. So, he is a great package for team India. We will see lot more match winning performances from him because he has got all the skills needed to be a very good Test player. I have been really really impressed.”

With this statement, Virat Kohli has not just given a clear indication that Yadav will be part of the team but also has shown that he will be the first choice for the future, ahead of Amit Mishra.

In fact, Jayant Yadav will not just be preferred over Mishra but his performances are also a warning signal for Ravindra Jadeja who hardly scores with the bat, sans the Mohali Test where he played an innings of 90 runs but he has to raise standards so as to be part of Indian team for long term or else Jayant Yadav may become the second choice after R. Ashwin. The way Jayant Yadav is batting, there may be a day when he might replace a batsman in the squad if the situation comes.
