The present Indian test captain Virat Kohli has never been away from controversy on and off the pitch but he has taken over the likes of football giants Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi and the runner from Jamica Usain Bolt in the list of the most marketable athletes of the year.

British Sports business magazine SportsPro has named Indian Test captain Virat Kohli as the sixth most marketable athlete of this year. The SportsPro magazine reports on the financial aspects of the sport all around the world and has named Kohli just below the Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Steve Smith was the only other cricketer in the list at 45th. The Brazilian super star Neymar was ranked 2nd in the list.

Saina Nehwal the Number 1 shuttle player in the world is the only other Indian in the list ranked at 44th and the list was headed by Eugenie Bouchard. Aged at 21 from Canada, Eugenie was the runners’ up of the Wimbledon final this year and also the semi finalist in the Australian and the French Open.

United States golfer Jordan Spieth was at third position in the list. Another American swimmer Missy Franklin was given the fourth spot in the list. Below Kohli, United States basketball star Stephen Curry was at seventh, followed by Japanese tennis player Kei Nishikori. The British hept-athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson was ranked 9th in the list. The lighting quick Bolt was placed 10th in the rankings.

Messi and Ronaldo were placed 22nd and 16th respectively. Tennis star Djokovic was placed in the 14th spot by the magazine.

The magazine said that they considered the marketing potential of the athlete in the next three years and that the list was created after a thorough analysis of sports persons for a period of weeks.
