  • The modern era of Test Cricket has already produced many star batters from many countries and they have captured the world by storm with their rollicking performances so far in the International arena. The four batsman who have made the world to look at their stunning performances are respectively Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith and Joe Root.

    Let’s look at their achievements so far in the International stage in both the formats of the game:

    Virat Kohli:

    Virat Kohli, is the next big thing in Indian cricket who has already done wonders so far in his 6 year International Career. Virat Kohli has saw more success in ODI compared to tests and his stats speaks volumes of his tremendous match winning ability. In ODI’s, Virat Kohli has piled up 6,586 runs in his 161 appearances and has a highly impressive average of 50.66. Virat has made 22 centuries in his 153 innings which is impeccable. When it comes to the Test arena Virat took some time to reap success as he struggled a lot in his early career, but now he has made his name as a formidable Test player with some astonishing performances overseas in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. England is the only Nation where the Indian hasn’t found success yet in the Test arena. Virat has made 2561 runs in the 34 Test matches he played with an impressive average of 45.73 and a highest score of 169.  

    Kane Williamson:

    Kane Williamson, the star Kiwi Batsman never looked back since his debut match against India where he managed to score a century. Williamson has cemented his place as one of the best young batsman in the world and is pretty successful in both the formats. Kane Williamson has scored 3,199 runs in the 45 matches he played and has a highest score of 245*. Kane Williamson maintains a healthy average of 45.70. However, the Kiwi took some time to find success in the ODI format but he is ranked as one of the top ODI batsman in the world. In the 79 matches he played he managed to hit 3,082 runs at a mighty impressive average of 47.41. Kane Williamson has hit 10 centuries in Tests and 7 in the ODI’s respectively.

    Steve Smith:

    Steve Smith hasn’t had a great start to his International career by putting up poor performances on consistent basis. His role was an all-rounder during his early part of his career in which he failed to perform in both the departments. But Smith has grown in stature in the last two years or so. In the 29 Test matches he played Steve Smith has already made many achievements to his name. Smith managed to hit 9 centuries in the 29 Tests he played and has scored 2,653 runs at an astonishing average of 55.27 and he recently topped the ICC Test batsman rankings and became the no 1 Test Batsman in the world which is a remarkable achievement. However in the ODI arena Smith has started to shine in the last few months or so and he showed his capability in the World Cup. Smith managed to hit 1,549 runs in the 58 ODI’s he played and has a highest score of 105 to add up to his fantastic average of 40.76.

    Joe Root:

    Joe Root made his debut against India in 2012 where he managed to impress one and all with his 72 and found his place in the Test side. The major success for the Yorkshire guy came in the Ashes where he managed to hit a century at the Home of Cricket, the Lords. Since then, the career graph for the Yorkshire lad is going upwards and made his name as one of the best Test batsman going around. Root managed to hit 2,467 runs in the 28 Tests he played and has a highest score of 200*. Among the four batters who are in the picture Joe Root averages higher than others with 56.06. Joe Root made his mark as an ODI player over the years and has been a reliable no 3 batsman for England. Root managed to hit 2,076 runs in the 59 ODI’s he played and has a highest score of 121. As far as Joe Root is concerned his major success in Tests came at home where as his away performances hasn’t been that great considering his batting talent and the batsman of his calibre the day is not far away to reap success overseas.

    Therse, are the four batters who are going to take the art of batting to the next level and make their countries proud with their astonishing performances and many records are to be created and broken by these star batters in years to come. At, the moment Virat Kohli should be in the top of the list as he has more International experience and has better Match Winning capabilities than the other three batters and has been consistent for some years.
