The Indian selectors named the squad for the T20I series against Sri Lanka beginning from the 9th of February. The squad had one major omission as ace batsman Virat Kohli was rested for the 3 match series. Kohli has been replaced by middle order batsman Manish Pandey, who recently scored a match winning century against Australia, in the fifth ODI at Sydney.

Other than the absence of Kohli, there has been no major exclusion However, Gurkeerat Mann, Umesh Yadav and Rishi Dhawan find themselves out of the squad after the trio did not feature in any of the T20I’s against Australia. Left arm spinner Pawan Negi was the only new face in the Indian T20 squad. Negi’s selection has meant that the left arm spinner has been chosen ahead of the likes of Amit Mishra and Axar Patel. Mishra, who did absolutely nothing wrong for the men in blue in T20I’s, continues to be ignored.

The rest of the squad is similar to the one which faced Australia and emerged victorious by a margin of 3-0. The break will be a much needed one for Virat Kohli as he has not just been India’s best batsman, but also the test skipper. With important assignments such as the Asia Cup T20 and the World T20 to follow, Kohli will surely relish his break.

It will be interesting to see India’s batting order for the T20I series. The likes of Hardik Pandya and Yuvraj Singh would surely want to spend quality time in the middle before the significant assignments.
