Indian batsman, Virat Kohli is unhappy as a horse’s leg was broken by a BJP MLA from Mussourie Ganesh Joshi. Kohli took his twitter account where he expressed his displeasure, “shocked & disgusted at the unprovoked attack on a beautiful, harmless animal. Nothing more cowardly.”
However, he hoped, “strongest and swiftest action is taken soon! Let’s all pray for Shaktiman.”
The good news is that 14-year-old Shaktimaan is doing fine, after a four-hour operation on Tuesday. Doctors said the horse won’t need an amputation and could walk by April end.
But, Shaktimaan’s injury has become the centre of a bitter political fight in Uttarakhand.
Shaktimaan collapsed during a big protest in Dehradun by the state BJP unit against the Harish Rawat government. Videos indicate that BJP MLA from Mussoorie – Joshi charged towards the police horse, after snatching a baton from a police and hit the ground repeatedly to peg the horse back. A while later, a BJP protester caught horse’s whip, making it lose balance with his rear leg stuck in a railing. His leg broke and police booked Ganesh Joshi and his supporters for animal cruelty.
Under a temporary tent at Dehradun Police Lines, a dozen doctors from the state government and Army operated upon Shaktimaan on Tuesday and said he won’t need amputation.
“We have put an external skeletal fixator with bilateral sidebars on Shaktimaan’s leg under general anaesthesia. It was an open comminuted fracture. The horse harboured infection last night. We will assess after six weeks and I’m sure it will be able to walk and even run again. It all depends on the attitude and morale of the animal,” Dr Arup Kumar Das told ET. A special sand enclosure is being built in Police Lines for it to recuperate.
