Harbhajan Singh, The ‘Turbanator’, has been selected in the Indian Test team (after two years) for the one-off Test against Bangladesh scheduled to be played next month. Virat Kohli will lead the Test side while MS Dhoni, who was expected to be given rest, will be back for the ODIs.
India’s selectors have named a full-strength squad for both series with none of the senior players being given a break. The only change from the 15-member team that played World Cup was fast bowler Mohammad Shami, who has been left out of the tour due to a knee injury. Shami also missed the IPL due to the same injury. Mumbai pacer Dhawal Kulkarni has been named Shami’s replacement in the ODIs.
Sandeep Patil, India’s chairman of selectors, said that the major reason behind Harbhajan Singh’s comeback is that as many as five left-handers are in the Bangladesh line-up, hence they thought of including a sexond offie alongwith R Ashwin. Harbhajan, who seemingly is having a good IPL, only played three matches in last season’s Ranji Trophy. His record was ordinary where he picked up only six wickets with a best of 3 for 51. In IPL 8 though, Harbhajan Singh has fared far better picking up 16 wickets in 14 matches.
