Australia's James Pattinson is eyeing a return to international cricket via English cricket county.

Aussie fast bowler James Pattinson who broke into the national team way back in 2011 in an interview to Espn Cricinfo answered a variety of questions starting from his Test debut to who is his favourite cricketer and whose wicket gave him the most satisfaction. Pattinson has been in and out of the national side and his short career has been marred due to ever recurring injuries.

He revealed that it has been frustrating to play only 20 odd Tests after making his debut way back in 2011 but remained optimistic given he is only 27 years old. The tall speedster announced his arrival with a brilliant performance in his debut match against the Black Caps in Brisbane finishing with career best figures of 5/27.

Speaking on his debut and missing quite a few matches in between Pattinson said,

”It’s obviously frustrating to be injured, but I’ve had the opportunity to play Test cricket – close to 20 Tests – and I’m still only 27, which is quite young, so that’s a positive. When you’re thrown into Test cricket at such a young age, it’s always going to be hard on the body, but hopefully, I can get some consistent form and have a good run at it now. You have to try and take the positives out of negatives sometimes, and hopefully, the fact that I haven’t played a lot of Test cricket might help me at the back end of the career. It’s been good to get out there for Notts and help put some consistency back in my game.”

Pattinson also revealed that he loved watching the bowling of Dale Steyn and being an Australian, seeing Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath bowling in tandem also excited the youngster. He also went on to reveal that his spell of 5/27 against New Zealand in his debut Test remains his best performance in international cricket till date.

Speaking of the most important qualities of a fast bowler Pattinson said,

“I think it’s a mixture. You’ve got to have aggression. A lot of the best fast bowlers have been quite in your face. Then the will to win – the desire to win – is something you need to have. It’s a hard job to come in on the last day of a Test match and your body’s sore and you’ve got to try and get ten wickets. Bowlers are the ones that win you games, so you’ve got to have that bit of mongrel in you to want to do that. That’s probably why you get a lot of satisfaction when you bowl fast: taking ten wickets on the last day is one of those great feelings.”

He also named John Hastings as his best mate in cricket.

“I’ve got a few, but probably John Hastings from Victoria. I lived with him when I was 18 and he’s been there right through my career. Then there’s my brother as well,” he was quoted as saying.

When asked who would be his first player if he named a world XI, the fast bowler took the name of Team India skipper Virat Kohli. He named Ricky Ponting and Cameron White as the two best captains he has played under while the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar at SCG gave him the most satisfaction. The concluding question was if he was stranded on an island what would be the 3 things he would bring along with him and he said it would be his wife, their dog and lots of food.
