This will be the second time when Rajkumar Sharma will work with a junior state in Delhi as he has earlier coached Delhi U-19. This will be the only first time when he will coach an ‘A’ side. He has a huge responsibility on his shoulders as Delhi U-23 side has not done well in past few seasons and the state association would hope the coach to come up with the results. Most of the players in the U-23 side are yet to make their debut in first-class cricket but have traveled with the Ranji side in the last or previous seasons. The first aim would be to push these players from junior to senior level.
The coach will be assisted by Vivek Khurana, who has been appointed as the manager of the team. Abdul Sattar and Deep Surya have been appointed as the Trainer and Physiotherapist respectively.
Earlier, the U-23 sides used to play just four matches of days cricket but BCCI has introduced a new knockout one-day tournament for this age group for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, the five member panel retained KP Bhaskar as the Head Coach of Delhi. They also roped in former Indian all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar as the bowling coach of the team. Prabhakar was the coach of Uttar Pradesh Ranji team in the last season but resigned a few months back. He had applied for the post of Head Coach of Delhi but has replaced Amit Bhandari as bowling coach.
The Ranji Trophy season starts on October 6 later this year.
