The year gone by has witnessed team India’s meteoric rise as the No. 1 Test side, with Virat Kohli’s men hammering every other team. After thrashing the West Indies in the Caribbean, and New Zealand and England at home, the next assignment outside Asia for Kohli’s team is finally out. As per the proposed schedule of the ICC Future Tours and Plans, India is all set to tour South Africa for a full tour, comprising of four Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) unveiled its home schedule for the next summer on December 29. The three teams touring South Africa will be Bangladesh, followed by India in late 2017 and finally Australia, who will tour in February/March 2018. India last toured South Africa in 2013, as the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side returned home with a 1-0 defeat in the Test series.
While unveiling the home schedule for next season, CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat opened up in detail. “Our scheduling discussions with the BCCI are in progress and we hope to be in a position to announce the fixtures for this tour in the New Year,” Lorgat said, addressing the media.
Mentioning India and Australia as the touring parties, Lorgat further added: “Another bumper season of attractive international cricket awaits our fans. India and Australia finished 2016 as the top teams on the ICC rankings list and this will give our players great incentive to perform at their very best.”
Promising fans for a cracking home season, Lorgat said: “We have not beaten Australia in a home Test series since unity and that surely must be good reason to perform in order to bank a notable first. Our fans can look forward to a really big 2017/18 home season for the Proteas.”
