Virender Sehwag And PT Usha Included In The Committee To Pick Arjuna And Khel Ratna Awardees

Former India swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag and former queen of Indian track and field PT Usha has been included in the 12 member committee to pick the Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardees for this calendar year. The committee which is being headed by retd CK Thakkar will meet on 3rd August to decide the awardees this year.
The jury elected to pick the awardees also include many well-known personalities from the world of sport and media. They are Mukund Killekar (boxing), Sunil Dabbas (Kabaddi), M R Mishra (Journalist), S Kannan (Journalist), Sanjeev Kumar (Journalist), Latha Madhvi (Para athlete), Anil Khanna (sports administrator), Injeti Srinivas (DG, SAI) and Rajvir Singh (Joint Secretary, Sports Ministry).
Meanwhile, former badminton star and currently a national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and Indian cueist Pankaj Advani has been included on the committee to pick the Dronacharya and the Dhyan Chand awardees.
The Arjuna award is being presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports which is under the government of India. It is awarded to recognise the outstanding achievement of a particular individual in National Sports. Started in 1961, the award carries a cash prize of Rs 5,00,000 along with a bronze statue of Arjuna and a scroll.
Virender Sehwag, who was a nightmare for bowlers all across the globe during his playing days, continues to entertain his fans in a different demeanour.
He has been an active member on social networking sites and has made a name for himself with his out of the box tweets and wishing well-known personalities on their birthdays in his own witty style.
Sehwag was last seen in action during the All Star series in the USA which also featured many former great of the game. He looked in great touch and smashed the retired bowlers all around the park. We still miss the fearless opener in India colours who revolutionised opening batting especially in the longest format of the game.
