Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag rejected the coaching offer of the new IPL team Rajkot. Intex Mobile, the owners of Rajkot team, offered Sehwag a coaching role. Earlier the management had approached former world cup winning coach Gary Kirsten for this job which was turned down by Kirsten.
Virender Sehwag’s demand is growing higher by the day. He may have retired from international cricket but his value is not down. He has already signed up with the MCL (Masters Champions League) which will start from 28th January in Dubai. Also, he has a longstanding offer from Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for being their mentor. Now Rajkot coaching job is another for him.
However, Sehwag has not made any comment yet about this. But sources believe that Sehwag has turned down this offer. Sehwag is currently busy in Dubai to play upcoming MCL. He will be leading Gemini Arabians who will play the opening match of the tournament against Libra Legends.
Sehwag may take the offer of KXIP for their mentor. A KXIP insider confirmed the Sehwag deal. He said, “We too have heard all sorts of speculation but we can confirm that he is on board.” Yet the contract has not been signed. Sehwag played for KXIP in IPL 7 and 8.
Rajkot is the new team in the IPL along with Pune for next two seasons. The teams are introduced due to the suspension of two IPL teams (Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals) for two years. For Rajkot, nothing has been finalised yet about the team’s management.
