Virender Sehwag’s childhood coach, AN Sharma, has said that the members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), who were given the charge to select the new Head Coach of the team were not fair. He said that Shastri was confirmed as the Head Coach of the side, as Shastri got a signal from Sachin Tendulkar before having a go at it,

“When Sachin asked Shastri to file his nomination it was decided there and then that he would be coach. Sachin is such a big gun that nobody can stand up against him. Although Ganguly and Laxman were not happy with the choice, there was nothing they could do. Even the last time, Ganguly was not very happy when Shastri gave the interview from Hong Kong and was not physically present,” Sharma told Yahoo Cricket.

This time again, Shastri decided to appear in front of CAC for the interview via Skype and skipped the face to face conversation. This was one of the reasons why he was not given the job last year and this time it was quite surprising to see Shastri doing the same thing again. Sehwag’s coach too was surprised with Shastri going for the same method for the second time,

“You’re deciding on the Team India coach and you are conducting the interview on Skype! This is no interview. It can be any big name making the appointment, but this is not the way it should be done. How is this even allowed?,”

The day when BCCI invited applications for the post of Head Coach of Indian cricket team in the month of May, the news of a rift between Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli came into public domain. Though there was no official word till India lost the final of the ICC Champions Trophy to Pakistan. Just two days after the loss, Kumble decided to step down from the post after putting a stamp on the rumours of a sour relation between him and Kohli. The former Head Coach said that he had untenable relation with the Indian skipper. (Read Here: Virender Sehwag Chills Out In Canada After Coaching Snub)

The reports suggest that Kohli and Kumble were not in good terms and even on the final day, Kohli did not follow the decision made in the team meeting and decided to bowl instead, whereas, the other decision was decided in the team meeting. This had an impact on team India’s performance, Sharma opined,

“When India played Pakistan in the final, it appeared that our team underperformed. Kumble even wondered later why Kohli had elected to field. I still maintain that India ‘gifted’ the match to Pakistan.”

Now when the whole process is done and dusted with Shastri emerging out as the ultimate winner, it’s will be good we wait for the results, as Shastri and Kohli share a good rapport and can bring results in favour of the team if they walk hand in hand, for the betterment of team India.
