VVS Laxman , the former Indian batsman has been appointed as the batting consultant as part of the Vision 2020 of the Cricket Association of Bengal which aims at helping the Bengal cricketers to make their way into the Indian side. Since the retirement of Sourav Ganguly, no one from Bengal has been a regular member of the Indian Cricket team. Earlier, Muralitharan was appointed the bowling consultant in March.

It is believed that it was Ganguly who insisted to bring in Laxman into it and he was the one who persuaded Laxman to join the project.

Talking with the reporters at Kolkata , Laxman said that he will be spending atleast 30 days with the players here at Kolkata in the coming 1 year and will focus to tell about the art of run making. Laxman , who belives that run making is also a technique along with being a skill .

Talking about his playing days, Laxman said the City of Joy has given a lot to me and he had good memories playing here at the Eden Gardens. He added that the people of Kolkata have been great to see. Some of his best times as a player came at this very ground and he now feels that he should pay this back .

Laxman , also associated with Hyderabad Cricket said that the ultimate goal for the players who have played the game before is to help the youngsters who will play for the country in sometime and he will be doing the same for Hyderabad and Bengal. He also added that he joined the project because of Sourav Ganguly.
