Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz said that leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who is recovering from back injury will be the ‘trump card’ for the national side against Australia in the upcoming three-match Test series which begins at Brisbane’s Gabba (a day-night game) on December 15.
Riaz, who bowled one of the best spells against Australia in the One-day World Cup last year, said Yasir would provide some momentum to visitors and that would be certainly an edge against the opposition.
“I haven’t got any feedback on Yasir, but obviously he’s recovering well,” said Wahab. “He’s going to be our trump card and we want him to play the first Test match,” Riaz said in an interview with cricket.com.au.
The 31-year-old left-arm bowler said that he is not in a position to respond to the questions regarding Yasir’s fitness, but he feels the fast-bowlers had a lot on offer on Australian tracks for the Down Under.
“All the fast bowlers in this squad, they have their own speciality,” Riaz said.
Amir, who came back into the international circuit after serving a lengthy match-fixing ban had bagged 13 wickets in four Tests so far with Rahat Ali, Sohail Khan and Imran Khan delivering results for Pakistan.
“Mohammad Amir bowls that in-swinger really well, Rahat Ali moves it both ways, I come with the pace, Sohail Khan has a tendency to have a good outswinger, with Imran Khan as well, so everybody is really good and working hard and it depends on who gets a chance to play.”
Riaz believes Pakistan seamers would definitely go with a positive attitude and hit the deck hard to roll dice and stop a rampant Australia.
“It’s always exciting to bowl in Australia because the wickets are really good for bowling as well as for batting,” he said. “They have true bounce and true pace. We like these kinds of tracks all over the world,” Riaz concluded.
