Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis has come in support of Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif who had served a ban and said that they should be allowed to make a comeback into the national squad. Mohammad Aamir was selected in the One day International squad against New Zealand after five years ban.
“I will welcome not only Aamir but whosoever has completed a sentence,” Younis told AFP.
“If they (Butt and Asif) have (completed their sentences) and are eligible then, of course, selectors should keep an eye on them,” he said.
“I don’t know how long they will take to prove themselves fit and ready to go, one year or six months, whenever they are ready they should be given another opportunity,” said Younis.
Mohammad Aamir return to the squad was opposed by Captain Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez. Both of them had left the training camp in selection of the banned player. They were forced to return after being threatened with disciplinary actions. He was selected for the T20 series also
Ali also threatened to resign the captain of the Pakistan team but the cricket board rejected it. Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt are undergoing rehabilitation process by playing in domestic tournament starting from 10th January.
The Pakistan cricket team will fly to New Zealand on January to play 3 One day Internationals and 3 T20 match.
