Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad on Thursday (March 31) avoided a huge injury scare when he suffered a bad-looking neck injury while fielding during the second T20 match against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
The incident occurred in the fourth over of the West Indies innings when the Shehzad tried to stop the West Indies batsmen from taking a single. Marlon Samuels, just after pushing the ball past the pitch, set off for a single. Seeing that, Shehzad came running from the backward-point to cut the single with a diving throw. But in doing so, he collided with Chadwick Walton. The Pakistan opener was floored as soon as Walton knee hit him. He was soon carried off the ground on an ambulance. But fortunately, the player returned to the field soon after receiving treatment.
“Initially, [Shehzad] showed concussion signs and pain within the neck,” Shane Hayes, Pakistan’s physiotherapist, told ESPNcricinfo.
