India suffered a huge blow early in the opening session of Day 2 after well-set batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was removed in the second over of the day this morning.
The right hander, who went back to the pavilion on 128, was able to add only five runs to his overnight tally before getting trapped by a part time seamer Dimuth Karunaratne.
In the 92nd over, Chandimal was forced to bring the part-time seamer Dimuth Karunaratne into the attack. This decision, fortunately, turned out to be a boon, as the right arm bowler trapped Pujara LBW.
Initially, the loud appeal was turned down but the Lankans straight away went for the review. The delivery which was nicely pitched in the good length area and nipped backed in and caught Pujara on the back leg. The height seemed the only issue but the hosts were confident because the ball was in contact with the back pad which decreased the chances of the delivery going above the stump height.
Eventually, the Hawk – Eye suggested that the ball was hitting the leg stump, there were three reds and umpire Bruce Oxenford had to reverse his decision to send Pujara back to the pavilion.
This wicket would serve as a great motivation for the bowling side who had to grind throughout the day without any worthy success. They picked three wickets that of – KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. However, Ajinkya Rahane and Pujara annoyed the bowling attack without any trouble and took India to a formidable looking position.
