After being on the wrong end of the Decision Review System on majority of the occasions in the ongoing series against Australia, the Indian team finally got a successful review when Cheteshwar Pujara was wrongly given out by the umpire.
The incident occurred early on the fourth day of the Bengaluru Test when a Nathan Lyon delivery hit Pujara on his pads. The ball stayed low and took a sharp turn before hitting Pujara’s pad as he was stranded on the back foot. The Indian batsman was looking plumb and the umpire took no time in raising his finger. However, the right-handed batsman was not convinced with the umpire’s decision and reviewed the decision straightaway. Replays showed that the delivery turned too much and was missing the leg-stump. Consequently, the official had to overturn his decision much to the relief of the Indian camp.
Meanwhile, the cameraman cheekily turned the camera towards Virat Kohli who was seen smiling in the dressing room. The India skipper is having a tough time with the DRS and would have heaved a huge sigh of relief after seeing a successful review from his team. As mentioned by commentator Ravi Shastri, it was India’s first successful review in seven attempts.
Here is a clip of that incident:
