Watch: Yuvraj Singh Becomes Emotional on the Sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati

The world was at Yuvraj Singh’s feet in 2011 after the southpaw enhanced his reputation of one of the best limited-overs players in the history of Indian cricket.

The Punjab-born star, who had conquered Nairobi, Lord’s, Karachi, Durban, took the onus upon himself to end this cricket-obsessed country’s long wait for the World Cup, and did it in style.

Yuvraj was adjudged the Man of the Tournament, as he contributed with both bat and ball to help India put its hand on the World Cup after a long wait of 28 years. But while the whole country was celebrating the historic triumph, Yuvraj was fighting for his life. A giant tumour, eventually 15cm x 11cm x 13 cm was growing within him was pressing against a lung and artery. The blue-eyed boy of the nation couldn’t sleep, was finding it tough to breathe and played the whole World Cup without bothering for his health and life.

The scene of him squatting on the haunches during his decisive knock against the West Indies to help India top the group, the warcry after hitting the winning four against Australia to help his team qualify for the semi-finals are still fresh in every cricket fan’s mind.

But his world came crashing down when he was diagnosed with cancer. However, the fighter he is, he came out of the war against the deadly disease unscathed.

The story is undoubtedly one of the most inspirational ones, and at the same, it is also very emotional. Perhaps that was the reason that the veteran batsman became emotional when he narrated the story on the sets of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, a quiz show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.

“When I woke up after sleeping, a little bit of red-coloured mucous came out and also the tumour of 14 centimetres but I kept on playing. My health started declining, and eventually, the doctor suggested me that not undergoing treatment would put my life at stake. Due to that my game and health both became bad,” recalled Yuvraj on the sets of the show, making one and all emotional.
