After much debate and drama, finally, Pragyan Ojha was given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on the eve of the start of Ranji Trophy 2017/18.

As a result, the left-arm spinner missed the first game of the season for Hyderabad against Maharashtra, but now, he is all set to play for his native state after two years.

“There is a responsibility wherever I play. There is a stature that I have to carry as a cricketer who has played at the highest level. I am focusing hard on improving myself. Every season, my intention is to give my best for the team. I know the results are not in my hands, but definitely I can work hard to achieve that. That’s what I have always believed in,” Ojha told Sportstar on his comeback to the state.

The return of Ojha back to Hyderabad was not a smooth affair as earlier, he wasn’t issued the NOC by CAB, and then, he was dropped from their Bengal squad for first two games after he went incommunicado. Later, he wrote to the state association, citing personal reasons and then only CAB decided to let the player go,

“I have no regrets. I had requested the CAB to leave me so that I could play for my parent association in Hyderabad and they were also keen on having me back. We both were right in our own ways. I don’t think there were any conflicts. They wanted to buy some time. I am happy that they finally realised my situation and where I stand,” he added.

Ojha’s addition is a big boost for Hyderabad, whose first game was a washed out affair. Already, the team has been bolstered by the added experience of Ambat Rayudu and Ojha’s incoming will surely make a change in the team.

It will be after two years when Ojha will play for his native state as 31-year-old player shifted his base to Bengal before the start of 2015/16 season. After spending two seasons with the state team though, he decided to switch back to his place of birth and now will be leading the spin attack of the team.
