West Indies vs India 2017: Sunil Gavaskar Defends MS Dhoni After Antigua Loss

Former India skipper and batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar, has put his weight behind MS Dhoni and has defended him for the loss in the fourth ODI against Windies, where team India failed to chase down the target of 190, falling short by 11 runs in the end.

“He is one of the legends of Indian cricket who has won us endless matches. For once, he fails to do the job, and you are pointing the finger at him. That is typical Indian cricket. What about other reputed batsmen who were supposed to score but failed. If they would have score runs, then MSD wouldn’t have had come to bat at all. The fact that they didn’t score runs and MSD had to go out to bat and he did hold the innings and if he hadn’t, then India would have been dismissed for 100 or 105 and that would have been the worst defeat. So stop blaming MS Dhoni. All round, it was a team batting’s failure because the bowlers did well. It was the batting failure. So blame all the batsmen and not just MSD,” Gavaskar told NDTV in a talk show.

MS Dhoni is at the firing point of all the fans, as he batted at a snail pace and consumed 114 deliveries to play an innings of 54. He hit only one boundary in the course, which came after he had played 17 overs. Dhoni had won many games in last over for the Indian team in past and it was an opportunity for him to show the world that he still has Midas touch but he failed, giving a catch to Alzarri Joseph on the last ball of the penultimate over.
