2013 was simply an outstanding year for the Indian team, as the men in blue won 6 consecutive ODI series’. One of those series’ included the all-important ICC Champions Trophy 2013, played in England. In that tournament, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India were the best side by a mile. No team could come even close to competing with India. The batsmen piled up the runs, bowlers restricted the opposition, while the fielders were spectacular to say the least.
During the same tournament, India achieved another rare feat, as they bowled out the Australians for a paltry score of 65! It is hard to believe, but the invincible Australians were indeed bowled out for 65! The game was not an official game, though, but just a warm-up encounter played between the two sides.
India won the toss and batted first on a flat deck in Cardiff. Things, however, went southwards for India as the men in blue were reduced to a shambolic 55-5 by the disciplined Australian bowlers. From there on, the partnership between MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik took India to a solid position. The duo added 211 runs in 30.2 overs, as Karthik got to his ton and Dhoni was dismissed for 91. India ended up with 308, thanks to Karthik’s knock of 146*.
The Australian batting unit collapsed like a pack of cards, as Umesh Yadav dented the top 5 batsmen. Yadav took the first five wickets and looked unplayable and hostile. After Yadav, it was time for Ishant Sharma to chip in with 3 wickets, followed by R. Ashwin picking up the last wicket. It was a shambolic batting display from Australia, as they were bowled out for just 65, handing India a 243 run victory.
