The Story:
A sense of delight has gripped the nation, as the Indian Women’s team has made everyone proud by reaching the finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup. India, inspired by Harmanpreet Kaur’s record breaking century, beat Australia in the semi-final to set up the title clash with hosts England.
The Indian team has made it to the finals of the multi nation event twice with their last appearance coming way back in 2005 under the same leadership of Mithali Raj.
Social media has been in a celebratory mood since yesterday. Congratulatory posts and Facebook and Twitter is dominating the timelines. But amid all these posts, jokes about Wikipedia, the popular encyclopaedia, committing a blunder has also left fans in splits.
The website just declared the Indian women’s cricket team the winners of the ongoing ICC World Cup two days ahead of their final vs England. This error was spotted by people which soon spread in the form of stories through various channels.
The mistake now stands corrected by Wikipedia.
