This win (against KKR) was sweet: Virat Kohli

It was once again time for the Virat – ABD show, as the two deadly batsmen wrecked havoc at the Eden Gardens! This time around, though, their brilliance together was witnessed in a run chase, as the two modern day pioneers complemented each other really well. Their partnership was simply perfect as the Knight Riders bowlers were battered to all parts of the Eden Gardens.
Batting first, the Kolkata Knight Riders batted really well to get to 183-5. Half-centuries from skipper Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey propelled the Knight Riders to a really healthy total. Andre Russell towards the end, finished the innings with his lusty blows in his cameo. But for the Royal Challengers, the target never seemed to be enough as first Chris Gayle got off to a flying start. After Gayle, it was time for the Kohli-De Villiers show. The Royal Challengers ultimately got home with 8 balls to spare.
Post the win, an injured Kohli admitted that the win was pretty sweet for him. “It was a tricky run chase because the wicket was sticky and the spinners were gripping it. I knew I had to stay in. We spoke about a good partnership and I had one with AB – another 100-run stand – to take the team home. We haven’t played well in Kolkata, so this win feels very sweet. The right time to go to Bangalore and really happy that Chris Gayle is back in form. Important to respect the sport and do the same things again and again. Was afraid that I had split my webbing badly but I told the physio that I want to play anyhow,” said Kohli.
Speaking about his injury, Kohli said, “A bit of injury gives extra motivation and it feels sweeter to do that extra bit for the team. We love the situation and we are not taking things easy, which is the greatest mindset to be in as a cricketer.” “The split is big and I will go for stitches, 7 or 8 maybe, now as it’s starting to pain now. I don’t mind even 10 stitches as long as we win the next two games,” said a delighted Kohli.
