Bangladesh captain Masharfe Mortaza, after defeating Sri Lanka by 23 runs with an all-around performance at Mirpur, yesterday said the win over defending champions Sri Lanka will increase our confidence in the match against Pakistan. Bangladesh played some excellent cricket in the match after struggling in the initial stages of the match in both the innings.

“In T20, we have always struggled a bit. This was a good win for us, going forward in the tournament,” Mortaza said after his side beat the Lankans by 23 runs here.

“The wicket was pretty good to bat on. With the 147 we scored, we can still fight it out. After a couple of catches missed, we stood up and did our best,” he said.

“The wicket was on the slow side today. Shakib played a big role along with Mahmudullah, but Sabbir was brilliant.”

Bangladesh has played 3 matches so far, winning 2 and losing 1. The biggest problem before this match was their batting. In yesterday’s match against Sri Lanka, the home team was struggling at 26 for 3 before Sabbir Rahman played a match winning knock of 80 off 54 deliveries which changed the course of the match. The bowling of Bangladesh was exceptional in the middle overs. The home team started to pick wickets and their fielding was brilliant after initially dropping 2 catches.

Bangladesh next play Pakistan on 2nd March. This win will increase our confidence and hope that the team can continue the winning momentum going ahead in the tournament.
