World T20 2016: England Cricket Team Preview

Overview – The out-of-form England side, who lost the two-match T20 series against South Africa, is going through a rough patch in this format of the game. Down in confidence England side will be a lead by Eoin Morgan and he has a big challenge to boost the confidence of the players for a successful run in the World Cup. The England side has already suffered a blow as their most experienced fast bowler Steven Finn was ruled out from the squad with a calf strain. The England side will kick off their campaign against the champions of 2012 World Cup West Indies side at Wankhede Stadium. But before that, they will play much needed warm up matches against New Zealand side, which will be followed by another warm match against an Indian team. This team requires loads of hard work and have to put down lots of efforts to have a successful campaign.

Players to watch out for – England side do not have a bunch of experienced players as their players have little experience of playing in this format. Most of their players have no or little experience of playing in these conditions. This may be a big concern for them before going into the World Cup. The star players Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Alex Hales and all-rounder Moeen Ali will be the players to watch out for as the success of this team heavily depends upon these players. These players are the pillars of this team and have a heavy responsibility on their shoulders. The captain Eoin Morgan is the most experienced player in the squad and he have also played IPL, hence he knows these conditions well and will pass on his knowledge to other players. The young sensation Joe Root is the backbone of his team and he will have the responsibility to carry on the good start provided by the openers. All-rounder Moeen Ali who contributes equally in both the departments of the game is a real gem for the team as his presence gives confidence and courage to the captain. Also, he will make most out of these conditions as Indian pitches support the spinners well. The aggressive opener Alex Hales will have the responsibility to provide a good and aggressive start to the team so as to lay a strong foundation for a big total.

Strength and weakness– The biggest strength of this team is their aggressive batting line-up which has a bunch of power hitters who have the potential to change their batting gears at any point in time. The biggest weakness of the England side is that they are going through a rough patch and it will be difficult for them to gain their confidence back. The second weakness is the absence of experienced players which is another concern for them.

Team Ranking – England team is placed at fifth position in the T20I rankings with 2462 points and 112 ratings.

Recent win/ loss ratio – Recently England team lost the two matches T20 series against South Africa by 2-0. There that loss would have surely affected their world cup plans.

Expectation- Well the team is loaded with a bunch of young players and it is expected that youngsters will put down a great show and will do their best for a successful campaign in the big tournament. It is the biggest stage for the youngsters to showcase their talent and present their case for the future.
Coach – Trevor Bayliss who lead the team to a successful Ashes campaign will be the coach of the England side.
Squad- Eoin Morgan(C), Jos Buttler(VC&WK), Moeen Ali, Sam Billings(WK), Liam Dawson, Liam Plunkett, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, James Vince, David Willey.
