In the IPL final, Wriddhiman Saha played a superb innings. He has always been seen as a player with potential who is unable to perform. But this time he showed his mettle with a century in the IPL final. Now, experts believe that he is ready for the Indian national team as well. Although he is now 29, but he may yet get a chance to do so.

Saha said, “Look, at the moment, I’m really not thinking of Bangladesh or other upcoming series… IPL has just finished… I am not thinking too far ahead. Having said that, if I keep on performing the way I’ve been doing lately, I won’t have a mountain to climb. If I’m consistent and remain disciplined, I think earning a national team berth will never be an arduous job. There are absolutely no alternatives to consistency and discipline.”

About planning for the game, he added, “Honestly, there wasn’t any special planning from my part just because we were playing a final. My goal was plain and simple. I just wanted to get as many runs as possible till the time I was at the crease. I was happy to get runs… But would’ve been happier had we won the game and lifted the trophy. Not for once did I think about batsmen who surrendered to or were successful against Narine… Just had no separate planning to keep him at bay.”

He concluded, “All I did was backing myself to play the shots I’m comfortable with. I kept focusing on my strength and treated the balls as per their merit… That’s it… Even when I faced someone like Dale Steyn, my approach was the same.”
