India chief selector MSK Prasad has revealed veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is keen to play the role of a mentor to the current crop of players. The 35-year-old made a comeback to the ODI team after three years earlier this month and hit a blistering century at Cuttack.
The southpaw was in prime form as he notched 210 runs in the three-match ODI series against England. It should be fair to say Yuvraj Singh has repaid the faith Virat Kohli and selectors had in him as few people even criticized the selection of the veteran star ahead of some youngsters.
However, MSK Prasad, the head of the selection panel, revealed about the chat he had with Yuvraj Singh and the 35-year-old is ready to play the role of a mentor in the current Indian team which boasts a huge young talent pool.
“I had a long, casual chat with him. He told me that he wanted to play the senior, mentor’s role in the Indian team. We thought that he still had the hunger to play. We saw that if given opportunity, he will definitely give it his best shot, along with mentoring the team as a senior player,” said MSK Prasad.
Yuvraj Singh is the most experienced player in the ODI team as he has represented India in over 296 ODIs and has been part of national team since 2000.
He scored his career best 150 when India were on back foot at 25/3 in the second ODI at Cuttack.
