Zaheer Khan, Rahul Dravid Contract To Be Decided By Ravi Shastri: COA

The appointment of Head Coach of Indian cricket team saga is moving towards no end, as just a day after Sourav Ganguly confirmed about Zaheer Khan’s contract to be of 150 days, one of the members of Committee of Administrators (COA) has said that both Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid are yet to be given contracts and them being handed an official deal will depend upon Ravi Shastri – the newly appointed Head Coach of Indian cricket team. It is to be noted that both have been given the role of consultants, on tour to tour basis. At present, Indian team is sans any bowling coach. Though they have a batting coach in form of Sanjay Bangar. Despite that, CAC appointed Rahul Dravid as batting consultant for foreign Test tours.

It is learned that Ravi Shastri is keen to appoint Bharat Arun as the bowling coach of the team – a proposal which he made during his interview process but his demand was not met. But now, the ball is in Shastri’s court and he will decide whether Dravid and Zaheer will perform the role or not.

The appointment of Zaheer and Dravid came as a surprise, as neither BCCI advertised for these two posts, nor CAC had a word with BCCI before taking this decision. Reports suggested that Sourav Ganguly – one of the members of CAC wanted Zaheer Khan to take up the bowling coach role and he made it sure that one of his demand is met.

With each passing day, everything is coming in open, as Ganguly has himself said that Zaheer is not a permanent man for the job and his contract will be only for 150 days. In Dravid’s case as well, he will miss most of the tours due to his commitments with India A and U-19 side. (Read Here: CSK Keen To Get Stephen Fleming Back)

The final decision over the fate of Dravid and Zaheer will be taken by Shastri. Though the chances of him advising the board to remove these two looks very unlikely, there can be a case when he asks for a bowling coach in form of Bharat Arun.
