Tinashe Panyangara was expelled from the Zimbabwe squad for the triangular series involving Australia and South Africa for disciplinary issues. The spokesperson of Zimbabwe Cricket said that Panyangara had allegedly sent a video featuring Mitchell Johnson’s bowling during the Ashes to his teammates through their watsapp group. As a result of this, Panyangara won’t be a part of the triangular series anymore.
The Zimbabwe team’s disciplinary committee found that Panyangara’s actions are disruptive in build up to the first ODI against Australia. The video is a highlights package of Johnson’s rampage against England. The sharing of that video might be brushed off as a bit of bantering among team-mates, albeit with a gallows humour element to it. The humourless response from Zimbabwe’s coach and team management meant that Panyangara would have to pay a fine a fine of USD 1000 apart from his exclusion.
With the exclusion of Panyangara, Zimbabwe are all set to be without their most experienced bowler. This is the second time in a week that a player has breached Zimbabwean players’ code of Conduct. All Rounder Luke Jongwe was fined his entire match fee on his ODI debut against South Africa in Bulawayo after allegedly breaking team curfew after that match. There were some rumours that coach Steve Mangongo wanted Jongwe removed from the squad, but the captain Elton Chigumbura successfully argued the young player’s case.
Zimbabwe eventually lost the first ODI against Australia by 198 runs with Johnson finished with figures of 1-7 in six overs.
