Zimbabwe VS. India: Player ratings of first T20I

The first T20 international between Zimbabwe and India was played in Harare. While India was looking to continue their winning momentum, Zimbabwe was looking to restore their pride after being whitewashed in the ODI series.
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first. Batting first Zimbabwe posted a competitive total of 170 in their 20 overs. While the target was a competitive one, India were favourites to chase down the total. However, in the end, they fell short by 2 runs. Zimbabwe now lead the three-match series by 1-0.

Indian players’ ratings:

1. Lokesh Rahul: 0.5/5
After an impressive outing in the ODI series, everybody was expecting him to provide a good start in the chase. However, the youngster had a disappointing outing as he was dismissed for 0.

2.Mandeep Singh: 2.5/5
The batsman from Punjab was making his T20 debut today and gave a decent performance.After losing his partner early, he did not loose his focus, scoring 31 runs and added 44 runs with Ambati Rayudu for the second wicket.

3. Ambati Rayudu: 1.5/5
One of the most senior-most batsmen in the team, Rayudu was expected to take responsibility in the big chase. However, he lost his wicket cheaply to leave India in a difficult position.

4. Manish Pandey: 3.5/5
Once again showed why he is regarded so highly. Came in a difficult position but played a brilliant innings to take India within the touching distance of a win.

5. Kedar Jadhav:
Had the opportunity to impress everybody, but lost his wicket at a very crucial junction to pile more trouble on the Indian team.

6. MS Dhoni: 1/5
The stage was perfectly set for Dhoni but a rare failure from the Indian captain saw India loosing the match from a winning position. Needing 4 runs from the last ball, the Indian skipper could only manage one run. His innings of 19 runs from 17 balls also hurt the team’s cause.

7. Axar Patel: 4/5
Undoubtedly the best player from the Indian team, the spinner bowled an economical quota of 4 overs conceding just 18 runs. He followed it with a brilliant cameo of 18 runs from just 9 balls to take India within the touching distance of winning the game.

8. Rishi Dhawan: 0.5/5
An awful day for the all-rounder. He first conceded 42 runs from his 4 overs and then scored only 1 run in 2 balls in the last over when India needed 8 runs to win.

9. Jasprit Bumrah: 3/5
Continued his fine form with the ball. Conceding just 24 runs in his 4 overs, the pacer took two wickets.

10.Jaydev Unadkat:1/5
Had a very poor game. Conceded 43 runs from his 4 overs which helped Zimbabwe to score a good total.

11. Yuzvendra Chahal: 1/5
One of the best bowlers in this IPL, Chahal had an off day on the field as he conceded 38 runs from his 4 overs.
