2017 FIFA Confederations Cup: Germany Fight Back To Earn 1-1 Draw Against Chile

The Group B encounter of 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup between Germany and Chile was ended in 1-1 draw. Alexis Sanchez gave Chile an early lead while Lars Stindl scored the equaliser for Germany just before the end of the first half.

German’s head coach Joachim Low made four changes in their starting XI from the Australia match. Marc-Andre ter Stegen replaced Bernd Leno in the goalkeeping duty while Niklas Sule, Matthias Ginter and Emre Can were the other players who were included in this game. Germany came up on the field with the 3-4-3 formation.

In the meantime, Chile made double changes in their starting XI from their last outing against Cameroon. Alexis Sanchez was selected in the starting XI for this match along with Pablo Hernandez while Edson Puch and Jose Fuenzalida were benched for this match. Chile began this match with the 4-3-3 strategies.

Sanchez got the early goal as Chile took a 1-0 lead after German defender Shkodran Mustafi made a defensive blunder.

Germany was late to get their momentum as Chile was dominating in the better part of opening periods.

Just before the half time, Stindl squared the scoreline after a tremendous work from Emre Can and Jonas Hector.

In the second half, both teams were looking very alert as they gave importance on their defensive part. As a result, there were very fewer activities in the both attacking zones. In the entire second half, there was only one shot on target.

6 min. – GOAL! (Alexis Sanchez) Germany 0-1 Chile: It was the 400th goal in the FIFA Confederations Cup history. A blunder from Mustafi resulted in a one-two between Sanchez and Vidal before Sanchez made the final shot which hit the post and then entered into the goal.

 

20 min. – Vargas shot off the Woodwork: It could be a stunning goal for Chile. Vargas took an attempt with a powerful shot from the 25-yard distance which unfortunately hit on the top of the post.

 

42 min. – GOAL! (Lars Stindl) Germany 1-1 Chile: After a great run, Emre Can proceed a ball for Hector in the left flank. Then Hector released a beautiful cross for Stindl who made the final touch to score the equaliser goal.

 

45 min. + 1 min. – Sanchez’s great effort saved by Marc-André ter Stegen: It was the great solo effort from Sanchez who was looking dangerous in the front of German defenders. After a great move, Sanchez produced a low shot which was saved by the German goalkeeper.
