The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has started a search for a manager for the under 17 team and has now identified three foreign coaches who would lead the team.

With India gearing up to host the Under 17 FIFA World Cup in 2017, the under-17 national team would get a direct entry into the competition as the host nation. There are 2 Germans and a Dutch coach on the short list provided by the AIFF.

The federation, which is consulting the German football federation (DFB) and other experts to find a suitable coach, could approach two German and one Dutch coach for the top job, given their availability, one of them could be the coach for the U-17 side leading to the prestigious meet,” a source stated.

The two German coaches are said to be Bernhard Lippert and Nicolai Adam, both the Germans are working with the Azerbaijan national team. Lippert is the technical director while Adam is in charge of the under 15 and under 16 teams.

The Dutch coach in mind is Wim van Zwam has coached the Dutch under 19 team earlier and his name was proposed by AIFF technical director Rob Baan.

The AIFF has made a decision to go ahead with a foreign coach for the 2017 under 17 World Cup and are on the lookout for coaches who have had success when coaching similar age groups.

Sources also stated that the AIFF wanted to continue with the plan of having different coaches for the various age groups of the national team.
