4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3? Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Sunderland This Weekend

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United failed to take advantage of a busy weekend as they took just two points from their games earlier this week. This saw them slip back into the sixth place in the points table, four points off Manchester City with a game in hand. They are fresh from a point from their game against Everton at the Old Trafford but Mourinho will be frustrated by the lack of creativity in the team.

They needed a last-minute penalty from Zlatan Ibrahimović to steal a point from this game but they will need to up their performance if they are to compete for a place in the top-4 come the end of the season. They should get back to winning ways quickly and have a decent chance this weekend when they travel to the Stadium of Light to face a struggling Sunderland side. The Black Cats lost to the Foxes in the previous round and will have to play out of their skins to take anything from this game. Here is the predicted lineup that Mourinho might field for this tie:

Team News:

The Red Devils are still without the services of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Juan Mata for this tie. The manager ruled skipper Wayne Rooney out of this game and he will remain the only other injury concern for Mourinho ahead of this tie.

Expected line up (4-2-3-1):

Defense:

The Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea is irreplaceable and Sunderland will have to get past him if they are to take anything from this game. Antonio Valencia was not a part of the previous game but should start at right-back while Eric Baily and Marcos Rojo, the only options for Mourinho, should be the centre back pairing in this game for United. With Shaw, not convincing Mourinho, Daley Blind is expected to be back in the starting XI this weekend.

Midfield:

Ander Herrera has been superb off late for United and he should start this game in the middle of the park for his side. United need to be a bit aggressive and should go with just two midfielders and should partner Herrera with Pogba. Carrick and Fellaini are expected to be on the bench on the night.

Attack:

Zlatan Ibrahimović was once again the saviour for United in the previous game and he is a regular starter for Jose Mourinho. Jesse Lingard was excellent in the game against Everton and might keep his place on the right flank. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial were both off the bench in that game but should start against Sunderland.

Here is how they would line up:
