Jurgen Klopp has enjoyed an extended honeymoon at Anfield as he still has the backing of the fans and the media in England even after such a poor start to his tenure at the Merseyside. However, to be fair to the German, he has not really bough in a player of real impact in his time at the club and the summer transfer window after the end of the season will give him a great chance to stamp his authority on the squad.

This summer will be very important for Liverpool as they will have to find the right mix of players who can get the club back to where they belong.

Here are 5 players who might play for Liverpool in the next season:

1. Leroy Sane (Schalke 04):

The 20-year old German international is one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment. At a tender age, Sane has shown great promise in the Bundesliga and is valued at 40 million. The player is understood to be keen on a move to a bigger club and Liverpool have been linked with him in the last two transfer windows. This summer might prove to be decisive for the youngster who is also on the radar of clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City. It will be interesting to see if the Reds can pull the player off from in between these financial giants.

2. Mario Gotze (Bayern Munich):

The injury prone attacker at Bayern Munich has openly spoken about his future earlier in the season. Jurgen Klopp who enjoyed a good relation with the German international, is keen on brining Gotze, who is interested in leaving the Allianz Arena, to Liverpool this summer. The scored of the winner of the World Cup final will not be a cheap buy but his ability and history with the manager might fend off interests from clubs like Manchester City and help Liverpool bring in one of the most naturally gifted talents to the Premier League.

3. Ilkay Gundagon (BVB Dortmund):

The 25-year-old is among the most sought-after players in Europe, and has revealed he is still unsure if he will sign a contract extension with the Bundesliga outfit. His contract expires in 2017, and with just an year left, the German club are also keen on off loading the player to another team. Gundagon was one of the most improved players under Klopp at Dortmund and may be interested in bringing the 25-year old to Liverpool. However, he has been linked with the likes of Juventus and it is to be seen if Gundagon signs a contract with Dortmund or ends up moving leagues before the start of the next season.

4. Joel Matip (Schalke 04):

If rumors are to be believed, Joel Matip has already signed a pre-contract with the Merseyside outfit. Liverpool who are badly in need of a strong central defensive partnership have had their eyes on Joel Matip ever since Klopp took over the club in August. The defender is without a contract after the end of the season and is all set to leave the club on a free transfer after talks between the club and the player fell off. Matip has not officially signed with Liverpool yet, but Jurgen Klopp seems to have prioritized him for the next season and deal could be stuck even before the end of this season.

5. Granit Xhaka (Borussia Monchengladbach):

The 23-year old has a contract running till 2019 with the German franchise but has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League. The 37 million rated mid-fielder has been on the long term wish lists of clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool and though the player admitted that he would find it hard to turn down an offer from Guardiola at Manchester City, a move to Liverpool is still on the cards. Jurgen Klopp needs some reinforcements in the defensive mid-field area and the young mid-fielder has been exceptional this season. He will most probably end up in the Premier League next season but what jersey will he be wearing is something that we will have to wait for.
