Five Players To Look Out For In The 2017 Confederations Cup

The domestic football season is over and the International friendlies were a nice little dessert for the intense domestic campaigns for the clubs all over the world.

It will take a couple of months for club football to return and it is one of the hardest times for any football fan to endure, with little to no sport to keep them busy with throughout the day.

However, thankfully for the fans, the Confederations Cup is right around the corner and is bound to be as exciting and affair, if not better than the previous edition of the competition.

Russia, the hosts of the competition, play New Zealand in the opening game of the tournament which contains some European giants like Portugal, Germany.

The likes of Mexico, Australia, Cameroon and Chile are also fighting for this trophy and there are a number of star players up for show in this competition that kicks off on Saturday.

Here are five of the best players to watch out for in this exciting international competition:

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal; Real Madrid):

The four-time Ballon d’Or winner was one of the best players in Europe in the recently concluded season and has been in fine form, ever since he helped his country to the EURO16 trophy in France. His side go into this competition as one of the favourites to go all the way and Ronaldo will have to play a huge role for his side. He always seems charged up wearing national colours and with more to prove after his tax allegations, he could easily turn into the best player in this competition.

Timo Werner (Germany, RB Leipzig):

Germany have one of the most star-studded squads, not just in this competition, but even when compared to the best teams in Europe. However, they have always lacked a genuine striker after Miroslav Klose called it quits a year ago. But they seem to have finally found the right man to lead the attack in Werner, who has in sensational form for the Bundesliga outfit Werner. At just 21, he is one of the most exciting youngsters on show in Europe and could make this tournament his with some decent performances for Germany.

Javier Hernandez (Mexico, Bayer Leverkusen):

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star is currently one of the most impressive players in the Bundesliga and is expected to help Mexico in their hunt for glory in this competition. He has been in terrific form, scoring goals for fun in Germany and though he does not have too many star players to help him in his national side, he is expected to be a sparkling star in this competition.

Alexis Sanchez (Chile, Arsenal):

Arguably the most effective player in the final third in the recent Premier League season, Alexis Sanchez, is the only player from the Premier League who makes this list. With a stellar season for Arsenal, that could not help them to a place in the Champions League, Sanchez will be determined to find some retribution in this competition and will hope to continue his winning run with Chile. Sanchez has helped the country to back to back Copa America trophies and if he can replicate his form from the domestic season, he will surely be a player to watch out for in this tournament.

Christian Bassogog (Cameroon, Henan Jianye F.C):

Now playing for a Chinese Super League side, the 21-year old striker was the biggest talking point of the Africa Cup on Nations that ended this February. He was one of the most exciting players on show in that tournament and it was his stunner that helped Cameroon over Egypt in the semi-final of the AFCON, that allowed them to go all the way this year. He was voted the player of the tournament in Africa and after his decent outings in China, is expected to sparkle yet again in this international tournament.
