IMG-Reliance have confirmed that Chennai will replace Bangalore as the eighth franchise of the ISL and it is looking likely that the franchise will be allotted to a consortium led by Abhishek Bachchan who will be one of the principal benefactors of the Chennai side, with Playon Skills, a Bangalore based company who are involved in grass-root football development also a part of the consortium.

It has been revealed that Inter Milan along with a senior figure from the Swedish national side helped the franchise during the international draft to select players and the Italian giants will continue to provide technical support, similar to how Fiorentina will to Pune City FC.

According to sources, Abhishek Bachchan was supposed to be present at the draft in Mumbai on Thursday but instead travelled to Jaipur where his side Pink Panthers were in taking part in the Kabaddi Pro League and therefore the Chennai franchise was represented by Prashant Agarwal, CEO of Kshatriya Sports who are a part of Play on Sports, where they snapped up former Premier League defender Bernard Mendy as their first buy.

The 14 domestic players picked up by the Bangalore franchise, led by Sun Group and JSW will be transferred automatically to the team from Chennai.
