Manchester United’s European dreams were cut short in the last match of their group stage when they lost to the German outfit Wolfsburg in their last Champions League encounter. They slipped to the Europa League and will now have to concentrate on the problems they are facing in the domestic league. They were held to a 0-0 draw by the Hammers in their last league game and will hope to take all three points this weekend.
They will face a Bournemouth side that is fresh from their 1-0 victory over Champions Chelsea in their last game. They will try and replicate that form for this game and will try to stun the Red Devils. Here is the preview of this game along with the Team News, Expected Line-ups, Predictions and Betting Odds.
The AFC Bournemouth vs Manchester United match will be played on Saturday the 12th of December at the Dean Court in Bournemouth. The kick off is scheduled at 5:30 pm BST (11:00 pm IST).
Artur Boruc made his first appearance coming back from injury and kept a clean sheet against Chelsea last week. With Federici, their backup keeper out due to injury, Boruc will surely start for the Cherries. Sylvian Distin missed that game against Chelsea but is back for the game against United. March Pugh might also be available for the first time in 5 matches. Callum Wilson, Max Gradel, Timmy Elphick, Tyrone Mings are all unavailable for selection.
United’s injury list grew longer with Darmian and Smalling picking up injuries recently. It is not sure if they are available for this game and if they are not, United will be very weak having already seen Rojo, Valencia and Jones all ruled out for the game. Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera are close to full fitness and are back in training. It is not confirmed whether they are fit enough to play against the Cherries on Saturday. The extent of Wayne Rooney’s injury us unknown and might not feature in this game.
Artur Boruc; Simon Francis, Steve Cook, Sylvain Distin, Charlie Daniels; Matt Ritchie, Dan Gosling, Andrew Surman, Harry Arter, Junior Stanislas; Joshua King
David de Gea; Guillermo Varela, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian; Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Ashley Young; Anthony Martial
Steve Cook vs Anthony Martial
With Wayne Rooney doubtful for this game, Martial will lead the line for United and will have to content with the Bournemouth defender Steve Cook who has been solid at the back for most of this season. Cook has a cool head over his shoulders and sticks to his task and will be up against Martial who has a whole bag full of tricks up his sleeve. This battle will be intriguing to watch on the night.
Blind vs Stanislas
Stanislas has been superb for Howe’s side this season. He has looked a menacing threat every time he surges forward and will surely trouble the likes of Daley Blind when they face Manchester United on Saturday. Blind will have to be careful and stick to his player so as to not afford him any space to hurt them.
AFC Bournemouth: 23/10
Manchester United: 5/4
Van Gaal is under tremendous pressure even in the domestic circuit as his team has not been able to knit a couple of victories together. They have lacked any kind of spark up front and will have to freshen things up if they want to launch a realistic title challenge. However, this game against newly promoted Bournemouth is not as easy as it sounds as the Red Devils will be put to test by a well organized Eddie Howe’s side.
AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Manchester United.
