Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero says that he will try to convince Lionel Messi to join him in the Premier League. Aguero received the Football Supporters’ Federation Player of the Year award on Monday night and said that he would try his best to convince Messi to join him at Manchester City.
Sergio Agüero said: “I will try to convince Lionel Messi to sign for Manchester City” as quoted by a Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Aguero added that “It will be difficult , but it would be good that the best players are in the Premier League ” .
Aguero himself was Barcelona’s possible reinforcement during his time at Atletico Madrid as well as his current team Manchester City.
Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi are close friends, they know each other in their time together with the Argentine national team. Aguero and Messi first played together in the Argentina youth-ranks and the pair won the 2005 Under-20 World Cup and then the Beijing Olympics in 2008 together and are all key members of the current national senior side.
Lionel Messi previously stated that he would love to finish his career with the Catalan club and has spent his entire senior career at Barcelona although his position at Camp Nou was recently thrown into doubt after he made claims that things are “complicated”.
Messi gave an interview to Argentine newspaper Ole in the last month where he claimed that he may not remain at Barcelona forever.
Messi has been recently linked heavily with a move away from the Camp Nou and has recently been played out of position by Barca boss Luis Enrique, adding fuel to the rumours that his time with the Catalan giants may be coming to an end.
Messi’s father has also said a move would be considered if Barcelona’s directors accepted a bid from another club. Messi has a release clause of around €250 million.
Manchester City are one of the many sides to have been linked with the Argentina forward’s possible move away from Barcelona. Chelsea had been linked to the transfer of Messi but the Blues manager Jose Mourinho has openly admitted that those rumours are not true.
