Sourav Ganguly said that he was disappointed with the falling standards of football in India , The AIFF must take cue from BCCI on developing the game in India. The Indian football lost to Guam 1-2 ranked 33 places below India in the 2018 football World Cup qualifiers last month.
Sourav Ganguly said that success of any sports depends on the infrastructure of the entire system. The Indian super League which started last year goes on for 2 months. ISL provides structure for the Indian franchise. He thinks that AIFF must play a bigger role if the football in India has to go forward with support of ISL. In 2008 the BCCI started IPL and it helped the Indian cricket a lot. Sourav Ganguly was the owner of Atheltico De Kolkata.
Like in cricket BCCI supports IPL and it is the body that runs the national team making sure that they do well in domestic structure is in place, the AIFF should play a vital role.
He said that ISL is great platform for Indian players but former champions of I League Bangalore FC were not a part of ISL. He also said that AIFF should not give up and keep trying. To improve the standards in sports infrastructure is important.
Ganguly said that the quality of grounds must be improved because of which the players get injured. At the present moment it seems very difficult and the standards have not improved for a while.
