There is no better time to be a Manchester United as the side is finally adapting to the new system under their new manager Louis Van Gaal. One of the key members for the turn-around under Van Gaal has been the Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera.
Herrera joined United in the summer from Real Zaragoza in a 28 million deal. It took Herrera few months to establish in United’s playing 11 but 2 consecutive starts in 2 big games against Tottenham and Liverpool suggests that Herrera has finally arrived at Old Trafford.

Ander Herrera on manager Louis Van Gaal
In his early days at Man United, Van Gaal blasted Herrera for being too impatient when losing the ball. Herrera admits that under Van Gaal he has become a more patient player but he prefers keeping a distance from Van Gaal due to his volatile character.
Herrera said: “I keep my distance with Van Gaal, but he’s a good guy with a strong character,” said Herrera. “He believes we’re all the same in the dressing room.
“Van Gaal loves possession and doesn’t like to risk [losing] the ball. He wants long possessions and to keep the ball because he believes you create spaces staying in the right place, because the team have the quality to find you.
“At the beginning he used to tell me off because I always looked for the ball, I wanted to have it, and I must wait for it.”
Ander Herrera on Captain Wayne Rooney
Herrera joked about Rooney’s recent little boxing incident and took a jibe at United skipper admitting he does not want an altercation with Rooney as he might end up boxing Rooney.
Herrera also revealed how Rooney has been learning some Spanish swear words just to fire up the Latin players at Manchester United.
Ander Herrera on Michael Carrick
Herrera looks a different player when he plays alongside Michael Carrick and Herrera acknowledges Carrick impact on his play and in the dressing room as well.
Herrera said: “There’s a lot of respect for Rooney and Michael Carrick.
“Michael Carrick’s very serious, but suits another quote by [former Atlhletic Blibao coach Marco Bielsa]: ‘leaders don’t need to speak much, but you listen to them when they speak’.”
Ander Herrera on Lionel Messi
Herrera comes from Spain and La Liga has been braced with a certain magician called Lionel Messi for last decade now and Herrera admits to be a fan of the Argentine genius. Herrera recalled Messi’s performance against Manchester City in the Champions League and admitted that it almost made him cry.
Herrera continued and said: I get excited easily and not only with the major teams. I’m a classic man and I was delighted when we played vs Yeovil Town in front of 8,000 standing people yelling at me: “Who are you?”
There’s only one Messi and one Ronaldo, where the club must adapt to them. The rest of players are earthly so I must adapt to United.
