Nomadic Premier League striker and much travelled French international Nicolas Anelka has joined Mumbai City FC for the inaugural season of the Indian Super League.

He had been out of contract since March when his contract with West Brom was terminated over the quenelle row and will team up with the team from Mumbai who are managed by Peter Reid.

“I’m pleased to join Mumbai City FC & very exciting in joining Indian Super League,” he wrote on Twitter. “Talented international players & top Indian talent will make matches thrilling affairs. I look forward to using my ability to do well for my team in the matches we will play.”

Anelka was capped 69 times by France having begun his career with PSG. He went on to play for Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City Bolton and Chelsea in the Premier League and also had spells with Real Madrid, Fenerbahce, Shanghai Shenhua and Juventus before joining West Brom last season.
