Fifa virus doesn’t care if you are on top of premiere league or elsewhere. That’s what happening with Manchester City. Things are not really going well for the citizens. Their injury list keeps rising. After Sergio Aguero now it’s time for David Silva. The Canary Islander was in the pitch just for nine minutes in Spain’s Euro qualifier against Luxembourg before taken off after a rough tackle from behind. He went down in pain after medical attention tried to carry on playing, but minutes later asked for a substitution. Juan Mata replaced him. From the very first touch, Silva was on the receiving end of bad tackles. Luxembourg’s Gersen started the proceeding. The 29-year-old city midfielder quickly made the referee aware that he’s been targeted. But there was no change in the opponent’s tactics. Few minutes later again he became a victim of a strong blow from behind which ultimately forced him out of the pitch.
After undergoing several medical tests, doctors said Silva has suffered a sprain to the internal lateral ligament in his right ankle. It can take 2-3 weeks to recover fully.
Aguero is already sidelined for at least a month with a hamstring injury. Now Silva’s injury could leave the Citizens without their two best players in upcoming matches. The Spaniard’s absence will be a big blow till now he is the key player in city attack which already has 19 goals in 8 league matches.
The city will be travelling to Old Trafford for the much anticipated Manchester Derby on October 25, which falls in between the 2-3 week recovery range of Silva. This could be the match that can decide who will be on top of the Premiere League Table. Aguero and Silva, two of city’s key player’s absence will leave Manuel Pellegrini very shorthanded.
Apart from David Silva, 22-year-old Juventus star Alvaro Morata was also stretched off after 30 minutes when a Luxembourg player landed straight onto his knee. The severity of his injury still not known.
