Italy football team’s manager Antonio Conte has made a cheeky suggestion about an approach from Manchester United before the red devils appointed Louis Van Gaal as the manager.
This remark will not go well with Van Gaal who has come under fire for his tactics and team selections. Few doubted the Dutchaman’s working relationship with his assistant manager and Man United legend Ryan Giggs.
Manchester United were looking for a new manager after they fired David Moyes after only 10 months in charge. Van Gaal landed the top job after leading Holland in to the semis of the World Cip 2014 but Conte has reignited the issue by claiming that he was offered the United job before Van Gaal.
In an interview with the Italian press, former Juventus manager was heard saying:
“The English team that looked for me ended up signing the Coach of a national team,” Conte said.
“But my challenge with the national team is personal. Becoming a Coach where usually the job is to select players, it is inspiring.
Conte discussed the desire of turning Italy in to the powerhouse which they deserve to be. Italy have a rich history in International football and Conte intends to take them there in his charge.
Conte said: “I want to turn the Azzurri into a team. I want to work, even though right now I do very little actual work on the pitch.
“This is a burden that I’ve been bearing for a while, and it manifests itself when I ask for the training camps [which were turned down by the Serie A clubs].
Next challenge for Conte is to guarantee Italy’a qualification for 2016 Euro Championships. Italy have a fresh bunch of talented youngsters coming up and Conte is not shy of giving them a playing time for the national side.
